Our Interns
Find out more about our interns and what they have to say…
Name: Craig Thomson – From: Derby – Internship: September 2009 until August 2010
Wow what a year! An extremely challenging year that taught me a lot about myself; what my strengths and weakness are, and the leadership at Positive Youth even showed me stuff in my life I just needed to sort out.
In school and college I was the class clown and fooled around all the time. I didn’t get much work done and thinking back my attitude sucked!
The internship is hard work but worth it, there’s also a lot of fun! I did things such as school lunch clubs, youth drop in centre, fuel, preparing and leading Friday night youth events, life cells, mentoring, preaching, mission around the world, and also Religious study classes in senior schools within derby.
One of the main things I learnt from the internship was that Jesus is the greatest leader of all time but at the same time he came to serve not to be served. The internship is about what you can give not about what you can get! At the same time the more you give into something, the more you will get out of it. When I realized this, my level of respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness increased.
I can really recommend the internship as an amazing opportunity to realize your leadership potential, and find out who you are as a man or woman of God.
Name: Jon Hall - From: Pennsylavania, USA - Internship: September 2010 until August 2012
I did a year internship with Positive Youth. I did it in conjunction with the !Audacious Academy, from !Audacious Church in Manchester. But the year wouldn’t have been the same with out Positive Youth.
I felt like I wanted to do something with my life worth while, I wanted to give back to God in some way, while being able to train and develop myself. Positive Youth couldn’t be a better place. I was able to serve in a lot of different areas from Media to Schools work, even to event management. The year stretched me incredibly.
I remember reaching a point where I felt so over loaded by jobs and tasks that I needed to complete. I didn’t think I could do it. So I did the only thing I could; learn the lesson of getting a bigger plate. When you feel like your doing everything that you physically believe you can do, then look at someone else, someone above you. Look at their time usage, their planning, their sleep and personal time usage. Its amazing how much of a shock it is sometimes, when you realize… “I can do SO much more”. And then some how, by the grace of God, you just find more time. Where did it come from? Where you wasting it before? Well no,… …you just got a bigger plate.
That’s just one of the many things I learned over the year. The year also made me able to discover different skills I had in leadership and my personal life. The nature of the year makes and pushes you to rely and lean on God, this brings you closer to Him, and no matter your maturity level, it takes you higher in Life.
This was one of the best years of my life for so many different reasons. The truth is, when you take time to give to God and sow into His plans and purposes, God specifically takes time, and power, to bless your plans and purposes.
I am currently doing a second year of internship with Positive Youth, again in conjunction with the !Audacious Academy. And I am excited at how God will use me this year.
